Introduction

Today we are going to talk about the Ancheer Folding Electric Bike as it is one of the best folding electric bikes under 1000.  We are going to be talking about the ride quality, build quality, and the problems with this electric bicycle.

The Ancheer Folding electric bike is designed for urban city living.  Its portability allows you to carry it on the train or in the car with ease.  It is a perfect bike for someone who rides to and from work. It is easy to store away once you get to your destination.  The great thing about this electric bike is that it is fully electric which means you can ride the bike without sweating in your suit. The bike comes in 2 colours black or white.

Ancheer folding electric bike is the best folding electric bike under 1000. You can buy this bike on Amazon for £739.99 which is not a bad price for an electric bike with gears.  Considering most bikes are well over the £1000 mark.

There is some assembly that is involved for this bike. There is, for instance, an instruction manual but it is a little bit hard to understand.  The following items are in the box.

Specifications

The Ancheer electric bicycle is a 20-inch bike.  Firstly, it has a stainless aluminum alloy frame which makes it very light in weight.  Secondly, the weight of the bike is 19kg which is perfect for commuting or carrying on public transport.  I still think the bike could be a bit lighter but you get what you paid for, unfortunately. 

The load capacity for this bike is 150kg which is great for heavier loads. 

The bike has front and rear disk brakes which are the best brakes you can get on the market.  The bike has a 7-speed gear system that is built by Shimano.  At the rear of the bike, it has a 250W hub motor.  The front forks of the bike have a high-strength shock absorption fork.  This makes it easier to go over a bumpy surface while riding the bike.  The bike has 20-inch wheels which are small compared to a standard size road bike but this design has portability in mind.  The handlebar and seat are completely adjustable.  They levitate to some high height.  This is great for a rider who is tall and who needs to adjust the bike to his comfort

At the rear above the wheel of the bike, there is a storage rack that allows you to strap goods and packages to the back.  This is perfect if you have to pick up some groceries at the store or collect a package while running errands. 

The bike has a front light which is very bright for night riding.  There is a switch to turn it on the right hand side of the handlebar.  The gear shifter is on the right hand side of the handle bar.  The left hand brake lever controls the rear disk brakes and the right hand lever controls the front brakes. 

In the middle of the bike under the seat pole, there is a latch that you can lift up.  This latch allows you to fold the bike for storage.  Firstly, you can pop the latch all the way up to release. Secondly, the middle part of the body of the bike moves to the left. which folds the bike in half. 

Motor Controls

On the left-hand side of the handlebar, there is an electric panel that controls the electric motor.  You can control the pedal assistance resistance through these controls.  These resistance controls are low, medium, and high.  If the led is switched off that means it is on full-electric mode without pedal assistance.  For instance, this means you can adjust the throttle of the electric motor on the right-hand side of the bike in full electric mode.  This throttle is next to the handlebar grips.

To turn on the electric bike, for example, press the middle button for 2 seconds and the LED will display.  Secondly, press the + button to increase the pedal assitance from low, medium or high.  The button on the far left switches the bike into full electric throttle mode.  For example, hold it down for 2 seconds and this will activate full-electric mode.

Battery & Motor

This bike is equipped with a 36 volts lithium battery and on paper, it can get a range of up to 15-30miles.  This is dependent on how much you physically ride the bike or use the power assistance.  If the bike is in electric mode only and rides at a high speed you are naturally not going to have as much range as you would with pedal assistance.  The battery powers a 250W stable hub motor.  On paper it says that you can get a top speed of 15-17mph. 

How does the bike ride? 

We had tested the bike in full electric mode. Firstly, we did this by pressing the middle button for 2 seconds to turn the bike on.  Secondly, we turned off pedal assist off, Thirdly, we pressed the left button until the led lights disappeared.  Fourthly, we engaged the throttle on the right-hand side of the handlebar like you would for a motorcycle. Very simple to get the bike rolling.

This bike has a little torque to it and moves fast in full electric mode.  We managed to get the bike to 15 to 17 mph on a flat surface under normal terrain and medium weight.  The bike can be bumpy at times.  Uphill the bike didn’t seem to slow down that much and it felt pretty good.

We engaged in pedal assistance mode. In pedal assistance electric mode it has a sensor that measures how fast the pedal is moving.  Low speed there is not a lot of assistance with the motor.  I would use this mode if you want save on battery range.  Medium was my favourite for pedal assistance mode as it felt more natural and didn’t feel overpowered.  The high-speed mode gives you a lot of torque. 

Handling

The bike was a bit bumpy and the seat was a bit uncomfortable after a while. Firstly, I would recommend getting a new seat for this bike to improve comfort. Secondly, the bike suspension system was a bit bumpy at times but I believe this has been addressed with the mountain bike model. The smaller wheels seemed to feel the bumps and cracks more than the standard-sized bike wheels. I wouldn’t recommend riding this bike off-road a lot but that is not what this bike is designed for. This bike is designed for urban riding.

The braking system seems to be strong due to the disk braking system.  This is very positive for an e-bike that is not premium.  Most cheaper bikes do not have a disk caliper braking system. 

The gearing system is fantastic!  It is your typical Shimano gearing system. I did not have any issues changing the gears while riding the bike.  This bike offers you the quality of a premium bike with an added feature of the three pedal assist modes.  

Pros

One of the things we liked about this bike is the simplicity of the e-bike controls for this bike. For example, it was easy for us to switch from pedal assistance modes to full electric. For example, you can press the middle button to turn the bike on.  To turn off pedal assistance and have it in pure electric mode you need to press the left button and the pedal assistance led lights should disappear.  The throttle is on the right-hand side of the handlebar like it would be for a motorcycle.

The battery can be removed an exchanged with another one if it has run out of charge. This is a fantastic option if you would like a bike that has better range.

The price point for this e-bike is great! For the price point of £739.99 it is no wonder why that is the best folding electric bike under 1000.

Cons

The frame of the bike could be a bit lighter for a foldable unit.  As you can imagine carrying a heavy load upstairs can be a bit tiring after a while. 

The seat is not the most comfortable seat in the world.  I would recommend to exchange the seat if possible for one that is more comfortable.

The battery display is not the best on this bike.  Firstly, I find it is not accurate in terms of how much charge is left.  Secondly, it would be nice to have a LED telling you how much battery percentage is there left on the bike.  Also would be handy to know how many miles can be ridden until the battery runs out. 

The battery gets a full charge after 4 hours therefore as a result you are waiting a long time for it to charge. You should be able to charge a battery within a shorter period of time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we find this bike is a good quality product and it is good for the price you pay for it.  The development of Ancheer bikes has put an affordable electric foldable bike for all to enjoy and it is one of the cheapest EV companies out on the current market.  This bike is perfect for urban travel as it is light and portable as a result this makes this bike portable for the train or to place the bike in the car. I would recommend that you get this bike if you are looking for a cheap decent-priced EV bike that is going to do the miles ahead. This bike is definitely the best folding electric bike under 1000!
