Xiaomi Pro electric scooter – The most affordable electric scooter!

Introduction

We are going to conduct a Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro review as it is one of the bestselling scooters out on the market. Today we are going to be talking about the ride quality, build quality, and the problems with this scooter. This is the newly upgraded version of Xiaomi’s popular scooter. The Xiaomi Pro electric scooter has a matt black finish that will catch your eye when this vehicle is driving down the street. I have seen so many of these scooters around central London. They are incredibly popular with in the UK market and I can understand why. What you get is a fantastic little package that will make riding one of these scooters all of the fun. The price point if fantastic! The retail price of the scooter is $649.99 American dollars or you can buy the vehicle off Amazon UK for £519.49. Details of this will be at the end of this article in a link below.

Specifications

The Xiaomi Pro electric scooter is pretty much the same size as the previous version of this scooter. It has improved battery performance and it comes with LED display on the handlebar from which you can monitor the battery levels and speed. The speed display can either be in MP/H or KH/H which I find really handy. The scooter has a range of 28miles and boasts a top speed of 15.5mph.

There are 3 speed modes for this scooter.  The Eco speed mode can go to a maximum speed of 9mph.  Standard Mode can go up to 12mph and the Sports mode can go up to a whopping 15.5mph. These speed modes can be adjusted by the power button on the handle bar.

On the scooter itself, you will find the power button which can turn it on or off.  From the same button, you can adjust the speed modes and the lights.  The throttle is on the right and the brake lever is on the left-hand side of the handlebar. The scooter has a dual braking system which means the front brake is electrical and the back brake is a mechanical disk braking system.  It is controlled via the braking lever which is on the left-hand side of the handlebar.  The vehicle has a tail light for when you engage the brake and a headlight for when you are driving during the night.

There’s a bell on the left-hand side of the handlebar. There is also a kickstand underneath the scooter so you can stand the scooter upright. The scooter itself is foldable. There is a lever above the front wheel hub that when it is enabled allows you to move the handlebar poll downwards. This can be locked into place via a clip on the front bell. This is great if you would like to fold the scooter or put it away. I wouldn’t recommend carrying this scooter though as it is very heavy to carry for a long time.

The scooter can be connected via Bluetooth like its predecessor.  You can monitor the scooters speed, battery levels and lock the scooter if you decide to leave it on the street but I would not recommend this as someone could easily steal this scooter whiles it’s on its stand.  The app locks the wheels and a makes a beeping sound if the scooter is moved.  I would recommend buying a lock if you decide to leave the scooter outside though.  Through the app you can also modify the firmware and change the scooter setting as well.

The power of the motor has increased to max of 600watts.  The first generation of this scooter could only go up to 500watts.  There is a charge port on the left hand side of the scooter and the charge time is about 8-9 hours which I find is the negative side of this vehicle.  Most electric kick scooters these days have quick charging.  The scooter has electrical hub brakes on the front and a mechanical disk brake for the rear.    The tires are 8.5inchs on the front and rear.

The Scooter App

I am going to mention some of the features that is available via the scooter app.  The features below are all in real-time.  I will list some of the app features below:

  • Speed in mph or kph
  • Average Speed
  • Battery current level
  • Current Riding mileage

If you swipe to the left you can lock scooter.

If you go into the settings menu on the app you can adjust the following:

In the Box

In the box you will find an allen key, handbook manual, power charger and tension Xiaomi M365 PRO Electric Scooter - 45km - 25km/h | Dublin | Gumtree Classifieds Ireland | 805548446nozzle. To setup you have to lock the handlebar to the post. There are 4 screws to lock the post to the handlebars. The scooter comes with some spare tires which I find is handy if you need to replace them at any point.

How does the scooter perform?

To ride the scooter you need to switch the scooter on via the power button. Give the scooter a push at the same as engaging the throttle to get the vehicle into motion. The vehicle is very responsive when you accelerate and also the brakes are fantastic! This system impressed me as I have ridden other scooters with the same system and these scooters did not brake as good. The scooter is fast and accelerates fast. The LED display and battery has improved compared to the previous model. The range is great as it can ride for 45 km but the downside is charging the vehicle. I am surprised that this scooter doesn’t have a fast charging capacity. It is great to cover small distances and manoeuvre the scooter in traffic. This is a fun last mile vehicle to run errands. I would like the scooter to have some suspension and bigger wheels so the ride is smoother but for the price of the scooter it is not bad at all. I noticed the scooter has shock absorbing tires which are better for a smoother ride but it could be smoother with some suspension. The brake light flashes when the brakes are engaged. You can modify the settings for the rear tail light in the app itself. The bell seems to be nice and loud which I find useful if there’s a pedestrian or car nearby. The front head light is very bright and easy to operate via the power button on the scooter.

We did a hill climb test and I was able to get the scooter up to a top speed of 21km/h which is not bad considering it was medium sized hill.

Sometimes when riding the scooter the rubber handlebar grip cover on the right-hand side of the scooter moves and touches the throttle. The throttle then gets stuck. I have managed to fix this issue by pulling off the handle and placing the electrical tape on the inside of the handle. This stops the handlebar from moving. I find this to be a safety concern and I think Xiaomi should look into this issue as it may cause a major accident to a rider.

Pros

The scooter has a great little app that can give many statistics about the scooter. The ridedability of this scooter is great and also the scooter has decent range. The scooter itself seems to be well built and doesn’t seem to have mechanical defects. This scooter is priced very well for what you get.

Cons

I think the handlebar cover is a safety concern as it sticks to the throttle lever but this can be easily fixed with either some glue or tape. I wish that the scooter had fast charging capacity as this is very handy if you decide to use this scooter for commuting. I also would like to extend the battery range if possible with an external battery. I would also like to have a separate button to adjust the speed modes and lights.

Conclusion

I do like this scooter as I feel it is well built mechanically and it will pass the test of time. The 2 major flaws of the vehicle is that it does not have a suspension system so the ride is very bumpy and uncomfortable after a long ride. The handle bar cover issue should be addressed and it can be dangerous if it touches throttle while riding. I also wish that there was a different button to control the speeds of the scooter as it was difficult for me to change the speed mode. I had to read the manual on how to do it through the button and found this a bit annoying at the time. One thing I found that was good was the tutorial on the app. This is a great little scooter to have fun or run errands with however I would not recommend it to commute work with as the scooter takes a long time to charge up if the battery is low. I do wish they had fast charging with this scooter but for the price though the scooter is a great little vehicle.

Please note that the Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro is out of stock on Amazon. Only the Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro 2 is available.
