Segway Ninebot ES2 review – On the move!

Introduction

We are going to conduct a Segway Ninebot ES2 review as it is one of the best selling scooters out on the market. Today we are going to be talking about the ride quality, build quality, and the problems with this scooter. On paper the Segway Ninebot ES2 is very similar to the Xiaomi Mijia 365. The only major difference is the different range of the scooter. The 365’s battery keeping running three miles further on a single charge.

The Segway Ninebot ES2 has a one-touch folding system which makes the scooter very convenient if you were to go on public transport or placing the scooter under the desk or in a cupboard for safe secure storage. Firstly, it features front and rear integrated lights. Secondly, it has front and rear suspension.

It is possible to extend the range of the ES2 by attaching a secondary battery pack. On the website, it says that it will increase the scooter’s range to 28 miles and boosts the top speed to 18.6mph which is a massive difference. If you want one of these babies then it will cost you 50% more than the initial price tag. You know what they say though that batteries are probably the most expensive component for an electric scooter.

What is in the box?

The package itself comes in a box. It also comes with a user guide manual, charging adapter, and mini screwdriver. Some assembly for the scooter is required for the handlebars. The board itself has a rubber matt surface, so you can grip to it while you are riding the board. There is a rear backlight and also a front light as well with reflectors. The charger port is located on the front of the steering post. The scooter is foldable for easy storage.

Specifications

The Ninebot Segway ES2 is one of the best scooters on the current market as it has a current speed of 15.5mph and a range of 15.5miles.  The max weight load capacity is 100kilos.  Specifications for this electric kick scooter does not disappoint.  It has a wide footboard that is comfortable enough for oversize feet.  Underneath the scooter, it has led lights that illuminate the scooter at night.  It gives the scooter a glow and the settings can be changed by the downloadable app.  Cruise control is available which gives you full control to customise the scooter to your needs.    It has a display unit on the handlebars to measure the battery life and to measure the speed.  The speed modes for the scooter are ECO, Standard & Sport and they can all be changed and monitored on the head-up display of the scooter.

The scooter has a dual suspension system on the front forks and also on the rear footboard joint. It also has the ability to take an extended battery which can make the board get an extended range of up to 28miles and give you a speed of 28mph which is very handy if you are traveling a fair distance to and from the office. It does not have a mechanical brake but it does have a regeneration braking system when the brake is engaged the rear stop light engages which I find super rad

The scooter is foldable and only weighs 12.5kilograms.  This is a perfect scooter to take around with you in the car or on public transport. 

How does the scooter perform?

In order to get the scooter moving you need to push the board manually with your foot and press the throttle at the same time. The scooter is very smooth due to the suspension. We have ridden a lot of electric scooters and skateboards before and this is scooter is very smooth to ride. It has a constant momentum of speed. I find the steering with this scooter is not the best because it doesn’t seem to have a great turning circle but if you know how to understeer this shouldn’t be a problem.

Riding uphill is not the best as it does struggle but hey you get what your money pays for.  The top speed is a bit quicker than your average scooter. 

We find this scooter rides very well considering it is listed as a budget scooter.  As the scooter has solid tires you will not get a puncture which saves money.

Pros

Mechanical issues do not seem to be a problem with this scooter. I find this scooter is very reliable and recommend it for someone who needs it to do a daily commute to and from work. One of the major benifits for this scooter is that it has a full suspension system which gives the scooter a very smooth ride. The scooter is fast charging with in 3.5hrs

Cons

The key issues with this scooter are with the electronics.  The braking system needs to be looked at it seems to be a concern of mine.  For instance, the braking system seems to fail sometimes which can be dangerous but this doesn’t happen very often.

I wouldn’t recommend buying this scooter from China as it took a long time to get here.  It is cheaper though to do it this way.    

Conclusion

In conclusion, we do find it is a great little scooter for the price.  You find these scooters everywhere so they are extremely popular.  Above all, we recommend this scooter as it has great speed, range and it can get you from point A to point B in a jiffy.
